They model the standards in appearance and bearing, provide training on proper wear and grooming, and address deviations promptly so decisions reflect the Army’s values and heritage. This supervision isn’t just about rules on paper; it’s about guiding soldiers to understand why those standards exist—to project a cohesive, professional force that honors shared customs and supports mission readiness.

While soldiers must adhere to the standards and take personal accountability, the duty to implement, monitor, and enforce them rests with those in leadership roles who have the responsibility and authority to shape behavior across the unit. External contractors may follow the rules relevant to their work, but they are not responsible for applying Army policy to all personnel. Civilian personnel also follow the standards, but the primary responsibility for ensuring adherence and upholding traditions lies with leaders at every level.
